How to Convergence
Convergence 27
August 8 – 11, 2025
Room B (Silverplume) | Saturday | 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
Ever wondered how Convergence came to be? Join us for an informal discussion about the history of this gathering, the lessons learned along the way, and what it really takes to build and sustain a community like this. From organizing panels to fostering connection across cities and over the years, hear from those who’ve kept the torch burning—and maybe pick up a few tips if you’re thinking about starting your own event.
Panelists

John Congson
Resident DJ at Goth Club at Zen, Norfolk, VA, as DJ SailorGloom, John Congson has DJ’d at many past Convergence events, including Convergence 12 in New Orleans. He has also performed at other large events such as DEF CON and nightclubs across the United States and Europe.
He has been critical in securing the music talent at Convergence 27 and will be providing his insights.

Chris Martinez
Chris Martinez signed up to do the website, not knowing what Convergence was, but volunteered anyway, seeing that his dear friend Heather was running it and that it was important to her. He eventually began taking on additional responsibility for other aspects of the event and learned that the friends made along the way were the real treasure all along!
Chris is the stick to Heather’s carrot, and is also ready to share lessons learned, but probably in a (slightly) less nice way…

Andi Pants
She is an artist, jewelry- and hair-maker, reader, cat lady, and fashion nerd. After spending over a decade as a legal secretary, she now is a freelance fiction editor.

Heather Phillips
